CLASSICAL MUSIC IN THE 20TH CENTURY

Throughout the whole of the 20th century many changes took place in classical music.

These different musical styles can be divided into two groups:
* the musician that composed the traditional "tonal" music.
*the revolutionary composers that created "atonal" music.

THE TONAL TECHNIQUE
Despite the technological advances, mantained tonality and melody.

The Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo found inspiration in the compositions from the past and imitated the music from the Baroque and Classical eras.
He's classify as a "Neoclassic composer"

Other composers such as Gustav Mahler were heirs to the traditional romantic current.
They were named "Post Romantic composers"
Symphony no1 "Titan"composed by Gustav Mahler and conducted by Leonard Bernstein.

Other composers continued the romantic style of Nationalism characteristic of the 19th century.
Amongst these composers we can name the Hungarian Bela Bartók, the South American 
Alberto Ginastera and the Spanish Manuel de Falla.

An idiophone is any musical instrument that creates sound/noise primarily by the instrument as a whole vibrating.
Most percussion instruments that are not drums. are idiophones.

Idiophones are made of materials that give off unique sounds/noises.
The majority of idiophones are made out of glass, metal, ceramics and wood.
Idiophones are considered part of the percussion section in the orquestra.

MEMBRANOPHONES

A membranophone is any musical instrument that produces noise primarily through a vibrating stretched membrane.
Some are played with drum strick or hands.
Other ones are stroken or shaken.
And, for instance, the zambomba is played in a particular way, is rubbed.

The general characteristics of percussion instruments.

The larger instruments produce the deeper sound.- Their characteristic timbre depends on the material they are made of : metal,wood,plastic,etc.
- The timbre is also modified depending on what we hit them with : sticks,hard or soft mallets,beaters,etc.
- Instruments with a very tight, stretched membrane produce a higher sound.

"THE MORNING MOOD"

"THE MORNING MOOD"


The Morning Mood is popularly known as just  "Morning".

It's a composition belonging to Edvard Grieg'Peer Gynt op.23.
It was composed in 1875 as incidental music to Ibsen's play of the same name.

The melody/tune in the piece is alternating flute and oboe.
The piece depicts the rising of the sun.

THE ELECTRIC GUITAR

It's a relatively modern instrument.
It was invented in 1931,so i's only  85 years old.

The instrument.
The electric guitar is made of solid wood and generally has six metal strings
,altough it can have more.
It's volume comes from magnetic pickups installed in its body.
These pickups respond to the vibration of strings,transforming the mechanical energy into electrical impulses which are amplified by an amplifier.

He's probably the most influential rock guitarist in history.
He learnt to play the guitar by ear.He experimented with the sound of the electric guitar in many different ways.
Sometimes for effect,he played his guitar behind his back or with his teeth or his tongue.

THE BEATLES


THE BEATLES
The Beatles were an English rock band ,formed in Liverpool in 1960.
They built their reputation playing  clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg.

With members:
John Lennon.
Paul McCartney
George Harrison
Ringo Star
They became widely regarded as the most influential band on popular music and fashion.
Beatlemania,their commercial success helped spur many trends, the proliferation of young musicians in the 1960s who formed new bands.


The album as the dominant form of record consumption over singles.

They gained their reputation in United Kingdom after their first hit
 "Love Me Do"

By 1964 they had become international stars, leading the "British invasion" of the United States pop market.
From 1965 onwards The Beatles produced what many consider their finest material.

After their break-up in 1970,they each enjoyed successful musical careers of varying lengths.
McCartney and Starr, the surviving members ,remain musically active.
Paul McCartney performance as part of his Summer Live '09 Concert Tour.

"Concert for George Harrison" held for Ringo Starr at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010.

Lennon was shot and killed in December 1980 .
 Harrison died of a lung cancer in 2001.

BOB DYLAN
Bob Dylan.
American singer,songwriter and artist.
Born in 1941.
He has been influential in popular music and culture for more than five decades.

Much of his most celebrated works dates from the 1960's when his songs chronicled social unrest.
Early songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin' "became anthems for the American civil rights and the anti-war movement.
" The Times They Are a-Changin' ",composed in 1963 and released in 1964.
This became an anthem for the frustrated youth.
It summed up the anti-establishment feeling of people who would later be known as hippies.

His six-minute single "Like a Rolling Stone" altered the range of popular music in 1965.
This song is performed by 18-year-old Dylan,named after his father Bob.
Dylan's lyrics have incorporated various political,social,philosophical and literary influences.
Dylan has amplified and personalized musical genres:folk,blues,rock,country and gospel.

Soundtracks are one of the most important aspects of any film or television show.
It stays with us long after the film or show is over.
Film music or soundtracks became popular and give way to a new genre.
To compose this kind of music , musicians usually use the tonal classical music technique.
Many great 20th musicians compose soundtracks for many well-known films.

THE ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones are an English rock and blues band formed in London in 1962.
Thanks to the modern means of communication such as the radio,television and the cinema,popular music and dances soon became well-known in all the occidental world.

They were in the vanguard of the British Invasion bands that became popular in the US in the 1964/5.

He's better known by his stage name BT.
He's a music producer,composer,technologist,audiotechnician,multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter.
